Rod Harquail Memorial re-dedicated as Yves M-Pelletier Classic 3v3
March 3, 2023
The Rod Harquail Memorial 3-on-3 hockey tournament has been re-dedicated as the Yves M-Pelletier Classic 3v3 Hockey Tournament. It will be played from Thursday to Sunday (6-9 April 2023) at the Dalhousie Arena.
The Dalhousie Youngtimers tournament committee members confirmed the tournament return is a go for their traditional Easter weekend of hockey and family activities like the Easter Egg Hunt for kids. A tournament-long Silent Auction and a single 50-50 raffle will be drawn on Sunday. A kid’s room and evening entertainment is also in the works.
The tournament was played as the Rod Harquail Memorial annually from 2001 to 2019 but has been re-dedicated as the Yves M-Pelletier Classic. Rod Harquail and Yves Meunier-Pelletier each passed away accidentally in their prime, just over twenty years apart.
The tournament is a fundraiser for the Rod Harquail Fund, which is a registered charity with a mission to provide aid to families of local children needing medical help. The Youngtimers tournament volunteers and supporters have raised and donated over $150,000 to the fund.
The 3-on-3 game has no icings or offsides, faceoffs only happen at the start of a period, and penalties are awarded as on-the-fly penalty shots. It’s designed for fans to watch hockey with no wasted time. Teams play with a goalie and six skaters, three on the ice and three on the bench.
Go to the homepage to register your team and select your tournament package. Players must be 19+.
The tournament committee expects registration to reach a maximum of thirty-two teams.
The tournament website will provide updates on hockey and social events as details get finalized. The website will also contain information about Sponsorships, donations to the Silent Auction, or donations to the Rod Harquail Fund will be on the website too.
