RULES for the 2023 Classique Yves M-Pelletier Classic 3v3 Hockey Tournament
1 Mission
1.1 HAVE FUN!! This tournament is strictly for FUN and is based on respect and fair play.
Any player who does not comply with this simple code will be asked to leave.
2 General
2.1 The Tournament Committee will not be responsible for any injuries that may occur.
2.2 Games will be of 2 periods of 15 minutes continuous time.
2.3 There is no icing or off-side in the tournament.
2.4 The teams will play 3 guaranteed games.
2.5 A team will consist of 3 skaters and 1 goaltender on the ice, 3 players on the bench. Registered players only. NO REPLACEMENT PLAYERS WILL BE ALLOWED.
2.6 Players cannot play for different teams.
2.7 All players must be 19 years of age or older.
2.8 Only players participating in the current game and tournament staff will be allowed to be on the player’s bench.
2.9 No unnecessary or obscene gestures by anyone on the ice or benches will be tolerated. Offenders will be ejected from the game with a possibility of being ejected from the tournament.
2.10 Referee decisions are final and any questioning of a decision may result in being ejected from the game.
2.11 Decisions made by the Discipline Committee are final. There is no appeal process.
3 Tournament Format
3.1 2 points for a win and 1 point for a draw.
3.2 Goals For and Goals Against are used in tie-breaking. A maximum of 7 goals difference will be calculated per games played. (ex. A 10 -1 Win equals +7 goals)
3.3 In the event of a tie in the standings, the winner will be determined according to these criteria in order:
1) The winner of the game played between the two teams.
2) The tiebreaker formula “(Goals For) ÷ (Goals For + Goals Against)”.
3) Goals against.
4) Goals for.
3.4 In the event of a tie in a playoff round game:
3.4.1 Teams will play 3 minutes of sudden death overtime playing 2- players vs. 2 players. The game will end as soon as a goal is scored.
3.4.2 If still tied after 3 minutes, the game moves to a 6 vs 6 Shootout. All six players on each team will take 1 penalty shot each, in alternating turns, with the Home Team choosing whether to take the first penalty shot. The score after the 6 vs 6 Shootout round decides the winner.
3.4.3 If still tied after the first 6 vs 6 Shootout round, the game moves to a sudden death 1 vs 1 Shootout round. Penalty shots will be taken in rounds of 1 against 1 until a winner is declared.
3.4.4 The teams will send their shooters in the sudden death 1 vs 1 Shootout round. in the same order as the first 6 vs 6 Shootout round (#1 to 6). The game will end as soon as only 1 goal is scored in a round. The teams must end with the same number of shootout attempts.
4 Game Play
4.1 The general NHL rules for penalty infractions will apply (hooking, obstructing, tripping, etc.) with the following exceptions:
4.1.1 No fighting. Fighting penalty is ejection from the tournament.
4.1.2 No checking. Checking penalty can be minor, or major, or ejection from the game by referee decision and possible ejection from the tournament by Discipline Committee decision.
4.1.3 No slap shots. The stick should not be raised higher than the ankle. A slap shot penalty is minor.
4.2 A minor penalty will award the opposition team 1 penalty shot that can be taken by any player on the ice.
4.3 A penalty shot will be taken on-the-fly during the game (no interruption of play or face-off). The penalized team must stay near the side boards and the shooting team must stay on their side of the center line until the shooter has returned to the blue line. The puck must be taken behind the goal line before advancing.
4.4 A 5-minute major penalty for any unsportsmanlike conduct will result in a penalty shot being awarded and the game continuing play at 3 against 3. The penalty time will begin when the player is in the penalty box and closes the door. The player must return to his bench after the penalty without obstructing the game play.
4.5 A player who, during the tournament, receives a 2nd 5-minute major penalty will be expelled from the tournament. (2 x 5-minute penalty = Gone from Tournament)
4.6 Change-up Zone is the rectangular painted box in front of the player’s benches. A player cannot leave the zone area until the player he is changing with is also in the zone.
4.7 After a goal:
- the referee blows the whistle.
- the puck must be taken behind the goal line before advancing.
- the scoring team must return to /touch up at the Blue line.
4.8 When a goalie freezes the puck:
- the referee blows the whistle.
- the puck must be taken behind the goal line before advancing
- the scoring team must return to /touch up at the Blue line
4.9 When the puck goes over the glass:
- the referee blows the whistle.
- the referee will hand the puck to the team that did not touch the puck last.
- If this is the defensive team, they get the puck behind the goal line while the offensive team must return to /touch up at the Blue line.
- If this is the offensive team, they get the puck behind the center red line.
